BINGO
P3K - Tasha & Shane Qi (Left) P3J - Rebecca & Alessandra (Right)
The above are the winners for the Bingo game. This activity highlighted the vocabulary that pupils had learnt. The pupils carefully selected nine words out of the list of words I flashed on the visualiser, verbalising each word as it was being drawn and checking if they had the word in any of the nine boxes. Pupils were given a token each for 3-word bingo and 9-word bingo.
Sole-searching vs Soul-searching
From the above newspaper cutting, pupils were told to reflect and respond to four questions posed by teacher.
Below are some interesting responses taken from their journal entries:
1) He thought he could get away scot-free.
2) Park should do some soul-searching.
3) There is no shortcut to success.
4) His intention to grow the shoe business was right but his act was
wrong.
Sentosa Trip
When we set foot in Sentosa; and walking towards the beach, the sky was overcast. I wished that it would remain that way throughout the outdoor activities but as you would have guessed, a golden glow soon spread across the sky. The scorching sun shone mercilessly down on us. Despite the heat, many pupils participated in the treasure hunt and sandcastle competition with much excitement and joy.

Multiplication
The Origami activity the kids had done to help one another memorise the facts.
The Snake of Equations where kids will try to list down as many number sentences for the factor of 6, 8, 9 or 10.
Dear Collage Parents,
Please refer to your email for tips on how to memorise the multiplication facts.

The 4 teachers from Beijing Zhong Guan Chun
The kids participating in coming out with an overview on multiplication.
4 teachers from Beijing Zhong Guan Chun were invited to observe Maths lessons at 3J. I started the lessons with an overview of what multiplication means to the kids and then asked the kids to give me examples of items that they can find in the real world using the multiplication facts from 6, 7, 8 and 9. Then the kids proceeded on to fold an origami that consists of multiplication facts from 6 times table to help them learn the facts in a fun way.
A Valentine Gift for the Kids
Parents Volunteers for CNY
A big thank you to all the parents who had contributed the Chinese New Year decorations and pussy willows. The Collage Teachers a.k.a. TCT are extremely grateful to those parents who had taken time off their busy schedule to help to decorate the 2 Collage classes. The kids definitely do not need to go Chinatown to feel the festive mood as they can feel it right in the classrooms. Thank you, parents.

The Burglary
Click here to read some captivating stories written by our Collage pupils on 'The Burglary'.
Prior to the writing exercise, pupils did a group activity. They wrote a tongue twister using words like burglar, burgle, burglarising, burglary and burger. In the process, pupils learnt how to use the appropriate word in the noun or verb form. To view the pupils' creative works, click here.

Science Update
My apologies for this late sharing. I would like to keep you updated on what has been done during your child's Science lessons. The topic covered during the first few weeks was Diversity. The pupils learnt how to classify items into living and non-living things.
The pupils played games to get them to understand the concept and importance of classification. Through these games the pupils realize that they should look out for similarities when classifying. Pupils also learnt the difference between good and bad classification. One way of reinforcing the lesson at home is bring your child around the house and show them how things are classified in the kitchen cabinet and drawers, wardrobe or even your collection of CDs and DVDs. You might also want to explain to them why they are organize in such a manner.
In the next coming weeks, the pupils will be learning more about the different types of living things. I have shared with them slides on the topic and have informed them that there are nature trails around Singapore that they could go to in order to observe nature and look out for the animals, plant or even fungi. Places like Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve or Chek Jawa on Pulau Ubin are excellent places to observe these living things in their natural setting. You might want to consider bringing your family there for an exciting as well as educational outing. If the places mentioned are too far, a visit to the Singapore Botanical Gardens will also do. Throw in a picnic basket filled with sandwiches and it just might be a relaxing afternoon that the whole family can enjoy.
To better get the pupils acquainted with plants, for one of their activity, I brought them out to the Eco-Garden. They were to choose 3 different plants and draw them in their Activity Book. To view pictures from this activity, please follow the link below.
